I decided to play around with pixel sprite work! Here are some animals dressed up in classic RPG-esque costumes. It was difficult to work with a limited color palette. If I had more time, I think I might want to make the characters in pixels as well.
I really like the style of this. I was going to do something really similar, but with hand drawn rpg like weapons. Your color palette reminds me of a dark cave and cotton candy, which I like a lot for some reason. I definitely think making the sprites into pixel art would have benefitted the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI really love the first pattern, and the color palettes for both are really great. I definitely think the characters should be pixelated in the second pattern as well. It was the first thing I noticed because of how much they contrasted with the background, so I think that will make a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteThe style of this is amazing! I'm a really big fan of classic-RPG games and I think that you were very successful in creating the RPG vibe. I really enjoy that you decided to use pixel are as they definitely translate as weapon sprites. It might be fun to try and make the characters as sprites too just to see what it would look like!
ReplyDeletethis is super sweet. it makes me want to go play some old school zelda or something. great job, love the colors. the only thing i would suggest is maybe playing around with some of the placement in the second one
ReplyDeleteYour 8-bit style is SO CUTE! The simplicity of your icons works really well together. Keeping my icons unified with each other was a big challenge for me! Adding the little dressed up animals was also a good choice to make.
ReplyDeleteI might play around with even taking away some of the icons because the way you have them laid out can be a tiny bit busy. It still works but it might be interesting to see this in a more simple layout.
Very cool. I think that the bigger, blue pixel symbols in the background of the second pattern are a little bit too big, or they need to be separated from the main icons more, but otherwise it looks good.
ReplyDeleteLove the concept, icons, and palette choice. I don't particularly mind that the characters aren't pixelated on the second pattern, but I would much more enjoy the pattern if they were bigger and the solid-color weapon sprites were shrunk down a bit. I think there's a lot of cool thing you did the with 'em that I can't see all that well cause they're too tiny.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking of RPGs when making my patterns! The 8-bit style is what really brings these patterns all together. Some of your objects seem a little be off though - the bow in the first one could be nudged away from the sword a few notches, and in the second one I would really love to see the character you made enlarged. Otherwise, these are fantastic- I would totally want to put this on everything I own.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I think these are really fun patterns! love how you've used the pixel art style for the top pattern. Both patterns are really nicely spaced - I especially like the little background silhouette elements in both - one thing that is nice about the top one (the pink one) is that you are able to point all of the elements in different orientations so there aren't any striping problems - there is a really nice balance with this one. The bottom one as well has some great color choices - I think that it would have been cool with the characters a bit bigger - or maybe if they were also treated with the same pixel art feeling, but I actually think you could easily make a third pattern that could let them shine on their own, without the pixel elements. I also think it would be cool to try one of the mini placed graphic layouts (like a little shirt design / scene) like we talked about in class - especially because you have some really fun characters involved. The other thing I think you could do is try scaling one of the two patterns differently so it may be obvious which one is the main pattern? I would guess the blue one because it has the most detail / characters, but it is a little hard to tell? Really awesome idea ,though - and really great execution.
