Patterns

patterns4 I wanted to create a pattern that really gave off a feeling of Spring. I tried to go with the cherry blossom motif and created icons to accompany that. For my second pattern I tried to give the damask pattern a try! I had a lot of fun with this project and I'd like to make more in the future!

  1. These are so diverse and they all go together really well, and theyre super cute. I like how these patterns relate through the texture of the trees, rather than having the same subject.

  3. Adorable line and color usage! These patterns work beautifully together as a set. The forth one down, that one might have less striping going on if the stump icons were different sizes, or a few of them flipped horizontally. I love the way your pastel tones compliment each other throughout the pieces!

  4. The linework on your icons is super fun and awesome and I think your more complicated patter turned out super well, I was going to said you could have added more color to some of the details but the more I look at it the more I like it as a solid color. The only thing I might change would be with the bottom pattern, theres a lot of negative space that might be easily filled up with a couple little flowers.

  5. Alex these are so cute. I think it's interesting also that you managed to make two thematically different patterns unified through color and linework. These would be awesome on a card of some sort

  6. Dude I really appreciate that you went all out with this. It honestly looks so much more professional. Color palette, icons, graphics - it's fantastic. I know you were having some trouble figuring out how you wanted the damask pattern, and I think having it larger (like in the second image) bring out the detail much more. Great job!

  7. We were roommates for a whole year Alex and I don't think I ever really got appreciate just how pretty your work was until I saw them laid out in these patterns. You definitely have your own style going on here, both in regards to your color palette and whimsical sprites. It all feels so very happy and jostling.

  8. This is a really awesome pattern collection - I think you did a great job thinking about how to make the patterns harmonize with each other, but also make the collection seem like there are some really interesting differences between the orientation of the layouts, the color assortment, and the imagery. I like that you used a damask pattern for the other pattern - I think it adds a lot to the collection to have a more offset layout, and the detail that you've added is really nice. It's amazing what a little stripe can do, too - this whole collection really looks unified and I think the little extra elements (like the placed graphic with the little guys and stumps) and the stripe really make it feel like it's an amazing collection. I think you should really consider doing more patterns! This group is really great. One last thing - you could probably take out one of the two damasks? Maybe the small one? Or maybe it turns into a tonal one? What would happen if that one was just linework? Just a thought!
