Tried different textures and styles to paint. The first one is my traditional way of painting in photoshop.

  1. The painterly quality in the first one is absolutely gorgeous, I love the subtle highlights and shadows and just how tangible the object feels. It also has a very similar visual style to an actual painting, which shows you have a good handle of the program and its features. I like the sketchy and illustrative style of the second one as well. My one critique is that the last two seem a little overly fuzzy to me, but I totally respect your explorations of techniques and textures.

  2. These textures are really cool and painterly. I think you should keep practicing with these and try to define your objects a little bit more.
other than that I really like your choice of color and your theme of food cubes.

  3. Good on you for experimenting, but your traditional style really stands out as the strongest in the set. There's so much definition and a warm glow to it that really lends itself well to images of these treats. You really nailed the colors for the frosting (icing? Glaze?) on it as well, and although the actual styles of the pieces vary, you held them together very well with the color palette. That said, the last 3 feel like they need more work to be on the same level as your first. You've got something good going on here- I think it just needs more time.

  4. These cakes are really pretty. Your use of the painterly style really emphasizes these elegant cakes in a positive light. I enjoy your use of the subtle color palette as I think that greatly influences the tone that you were going for. I do feel that the last few are a tad bit too fuzzy, but all in all they look great!

  5. I really like how you tried some different methods to painting in photoshop with these. Theyre all really impressive. That first one, which i know is your go-to style, is so fluffy looking and pretty and it really lends itself to the foods you chose. Your painterly style is really super impressive, not just what youre used to but even in your other ones. I'd like to see you go further with these other painterly styles you tried.
I also think that, as a set, these work really well. However, they are also very similar. I think playing with the composition and perspective a little more could have helped them all stand out from each other more.

  6. i love the first one. it looks so delicious! i feel like i can pick it right off my screen and eat it. the other ones cirtainly have a whole different quality about them but they are also pretty good. the only thing i would have liked to see is something else done with the backgrounds. right now they feel sort of thrown in at the last minute.

  7. I really like the atmospheric quality to the way you're painting. It's really fun to see the difference between all of these - I think that even though they're all different approaches, you can still tell that they were done by you! One thing that is interesting about that is that in the brown / orange one (third down) is almost as if it was treated with a very soft photographic filter. The way the haze looks on the crumbley parts on top is really nice as you still get the depth it in without having to do a ton of detail. Same thing with how you did the shines on the chocolate frosting on the bottom one - really nice addition of textures in these. I think the only thing I'd mention the could make the linework one better if maybe an omission of linework in some of the places that you think color or texture might already be enough? Maybe on the bottom of the bar itself, it could just have the solid shape of the bottom layer against the table. That might lighten it up a bit and make it seem like the thicker lines are closer to us, and as they get further away they get thinner or recede completely.

  8. The painterly vibe you have going on here is A+ and I wish the second composition was done with the same style in mind - it seems to be the odd one out. It looks like your using darker shades of the colors you picked out or straight up black to shade your food, and in turn its giving your illustrations a really dark quality that I'm not sure works with the subject. A quick fix for this is to try using different hues instead of shades to make it much more vibrant and dynamic in color. Get those Hue/Saturations adjustment layers goin' on!
