I couldn't decide on a particular season, so I went with summer! I was heavily inspired by concept art I was going through last class and decided to focus on weapon creation. I felt like choosing multiple types of weapons could have made it too busy, so I stuck with making swords.
i love the colors and the weapons are super great. the style and color choices remind me of kirby. these all seem like different power ups.
ReplyDeleteAh man I like these a lot, and I totally knew they were yours before I even saw the name. I love the stylization of them, and how despite that they each still hold a lot of character. I'd be stoked to pick these up in any game.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your color palette! All the weapon designs look very clean and stylish. It might be fun to play around more with the spear pattern by adding more variation to the icons, but it still looks really good as is.
ReplyDeleteI like these. I would be cool to see some of them arranged in a shape of a diamond to make that type of repeating pattern. Your color choices are very subtle and complementary, which works really well. I would love to see sailor moon versions!! :) :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors, fantastic designs! They all seem so vibrant and playful, very much at home in a game like Kirby's as James already mentioned. As icons they have to be some of my favorites, but I have to say the patterns as a whole are a bit static- it reminds of the same pitfall I fell into with getting carried away with the icons themselves and letting the pattern form afterwards.

This is mostly aimed at the pattern with the blank background (the spear one actually came out quite nicely) I think rearranging the weapons in some more lively formations (i.e in rings) would do the trick. Still a fantastic job overall, though!
These are so cool. I feel like you should print some stickers. Reminds me a bit of Sailor Moon, but that's probably just the color palette, which is great by the way, even though it is over the 8 color limit. I really like how you are able to take complex objects and really simplify it, but still make it recognizable.
ReplyDeleteThat first picture - can I get this as a shirt, please? No, seriously, I'd wear it. Put it up on Society6 and link it somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI really like the individual elements and the first pattern a whole lot. They're pretty fun and visually interesting. I'm not too sold on the second pattern with the lance, tho. It has a weird 'not-tracking-technically-but-totally-tracking-anyway' look. Maybe remove the streaks and replace them with other long weapons (spear, polearm, etc.)?
these are awesome! great colors and cool i icons. though i wish you had done with the sword one. maybe you flip some of them so there not all facing the same direction.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I buy these? Haha, these patterns are great, though. The top one is by far my favorite! The light pastels look great together and none of the icons or parts of them stand out above the others. The color choice in these are well done and the weapons themselves are meticulously crafted. I agree that the spear one might need some fiddling around with arrangements to keep the eye moving throughout the work rather than linger on a chunk of spearheads, but these are still really fun.
ReplyDeleteyour colors are so great! i know you were saying you had too many but I think it works really well. it doesnt seem over the top or too busy, it all still seems super cohesive.
ReplyDeleteThe drawings are really fun! I think that the swords are my favorite - both pattern wise, and just because you have this really great planar-situation with the blades that is really cool. The color choices on these work really well -- I think that it would be neat to see the blade pattern smaller - maybe just beacuse they're such nice, clean shapes, that it might be really cool to see it at about 70% of this size - I think it woudl hold up really well! Maybe it could be a sheet set or something! The spear one looks really close! I think that making diagonal patterns is hard because you're dealing with the edges -- and edges are hard with diagonals. I think it's close -- there is a purple spot near the upper right that could be covered up - maybe move the spear over a little to fill in the negative space? I think that a SUPER easy fix would be to expand your art board on that one by 2 times -- or bigger -- and just put more spears in it. That way you can even see what you could do by spacing the spear heads out and around a bit differently? Maybe even change the colors of some of them so when they're next to each other they don't group together?
