Arepas! I'm painting different than I usually do using the method in class, so I'm not sure I was able to refine some of the colors. It was fun though!

  1. These are so cute! i love your linework and i think your use of texture really worked with these pieces. Theyre also very cohesive as a set.

  2. These are SO nicely put together, all the textures and colors you used with these illustrations worked together perfectly. WOW. I don't think I have anything to critique on here even. dang girl.

  3. there a sensitivity to the Arepas and they are really balanced.and the color transitions a nice. the variation in your line creates a sense of a depth. the center composition really unifies these.

  4. I really enjoy all of these together. Through your use of textures and color as well as your clean line work you were able to effectively make all of the spot illustrations in a cohesive set that all work together nicely.

  5. These look great. They have a lot of character and seem really playful. The colors are vibrant and look like a sunset is shining on them. You don't have a lot of shadows, but I don't think that you really even need those, you make up for them with your colors and highlights. I could totally see these images in some Cali restaurant.

  6. I think these are really sweet. i love the detail that you put into it. the colors all seem to go well with each other but they do seem a little weird at times. i also really love the textures you put into some of these especially the second one thats a square

  7. I love the color palettes on the last two, and the variation of linework make each of them very visually dynamic. I think the 2nd one ended up being the least strong, and I feel like that's honestly just because of the large brown diamond enclosing the objects. Although it totally reads as a plate and makes sense, I feel like it forces the eye into the middle and doesn't really let it leave, ya know

  8. These all look fantastic, but I think the part that really carries these are the subtle use of texture and color- it makes me think of some color bleed on special paper, and it looks super appealing because it creates a glow effect (and not to mention it just looks tasty- I already ate lunch and would still eat one of these without batting an eye) . Lastly, the circular objects is something of a motif I noticed in this set and I think that just is a really nice touch to the whole group.

  9. Patty! These are awesome! I must have somehow skipped over this post from you -- I'm so sorry!!!!! I wanted to give you some comments on these! I think that this is an awesome series for you - particularly because you've done an incredible job making the colors not only vibrant, but you have a really good balance between the dark values and the light. I notice that in a lot of your other work in this class you tend to move a lot lighter in the spectrum, and this one, for whatever reason -- feel perfect for the theme! I love how you're integrating brown linework as well. I think that you could try a couple things with textural linework if you want them to be even more readable. I think for the third one down it's a litlte hard to tell if those are little buns? Or pockets? Or something? I thikn that if you were able to do a bit more texturing with the linework, or maybe change the angle a little bit -- it might be easier to read! The subtlety in the others is nice because they're super readable! I love how you're using pattern and texture, too - in the little pieces of vegetable / other things on top of the dishes! Really cool series. It's a great combination!
