For this picture I mostly stuck to the blob tool - pretty boring, I know. Most of the larger shapes have a subtle vertical gradient and there's a few blurred-out objects to simulate fog. I did a slight bit of color correction in Photoshop in the end to make it a bit more blue.
I'm really getting a Dark Souls vibe from this one, and I like that a lot. It's a good testament to how carefully utilized simplicity can go a long way with creating a really effective piece as the color and lighting carry this image the whole way. My only protest is that the ghostly figure might be too bright- it calls for the viewer's whole attention and might keep some from noticing the other great details in the forest. But fantastic overall!
Chris, your work is always stellar! I think you hit a really good note with this landscape. Surprisingly the dark colors don't bleed into each other - they work well together to create a dark forest ambience. I also appreciate the subtle marks on the ground and on the trees, since little details like that really go a long way. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but the third tree from the right seems to be clipped by another shadow and it stands out from the rest. I do agree the ghost is a little too vibrant, but she is a nice addition - I might amp up the light coming from the right to bring attention to the smaller figure so she isn't so distracting.
Chris your last one is amazing! I really enjoy the your use of details within that piece. Your choice of color and shadows really emphasize the piece making everything feel very cohesive and complete. I also do agree with Carl where I do also feel that the ghostly figure is a little too bright. Other than that I think this is a really cool piece.
