well this was new for me and i ended up spending alot more time than i thought i would on this project, but i learned some stuff about using the pen and pencil tool in illustrator and that was helpful though i had some trouble using the layers . hopefully i do better on my next project.

  1. This is pretty good but i would have liked to maybe see some of the highlights in the cactus.

  2. This illustration is adorable and that adding brighter colors on the illustrator version made this piece pop a lot more.

  3. I really like this piece especially in the way you were able to capture the vibrancy of the original illustration. The cactus does however feel a bit wonky rather than the whimsical appearance it had in the painted version. Maybe the white detailing might help that? Overall it's super solid.

  4. This is really good. I like how your illustrator version doesn't feel too flat and still has the hand drawn feel to it.

  5. There are some color variation that I would have liked to have seen, especially in the face of the guitar, but I think that overall you were able to recreate the first image successfully. Maybe since it is such a simple image with defined forms, you could try to get some of the texture from the paint (gouache, I think?) by making multiple layers on top of each other.

  6. I really love the transition to illustrator on this piece. I think it works really well overall. The only thing missing is that texture from the original. It looks like youve got all your colors in there, but you could maybe try and recreate that texture by adding some very light opacity shapes into there.

  7. I really enjoy the bright vibrant colors in this piece! I feel like you were effectively able to re-create your painting in illustrator. The only thing I would have liked to see is playing around with the lights on the guitar as well as the detail on the cactus. Other than that great job!

  8. I'm really happy to see the preservation of the line variation and playfulness of the original image carried over to the redraw. The subtle texture on the shapes keep the piece from feeling too mechanical like a lot of other pen-tool drawings. If it wasn't for the assignment prompt, you could've fooled me if you said it was done outside of Illustrator.

  9. I love the playfulness Illustrator brought out in this piece. The colors are more vibrant and the strokes look just as natural as the original's. I'll also riff off of James's comment and agree that the cactus highlights should be added, since it's such a nice color combination in the original.

  10. I think this is areally nice reproduction - especially in the line quality! I think there could be a couple things that you could do to make it even better! One thing that you could do is use opacity in the upper area of the ukulele and add a tiny stripe of yellow at a low opacity so you get the same kind of yellow look to it! Same thing with the brown around the flower - you could use the same technique there as well - just draw a piece of the line in the regular brown, and then just use a slightly lower opacity and it'll match the kind of more translucent line that you have in the original. I think you did a really great job on this, and the only other thing I think you could do is just add the spots in the plant back in on the left! Great job.
