I recreated a piece I originally made in Photoshop in Illustrator. It was actually the first time I've made anything in Illustrator, and although the pen tool was a little janky at first I ended up using it the most. After a while, it just became more natural to use (thank god) and it replicated the original shapes in the first image pretty well. I'm still not sure how to get soft or brushy qualities in Illustrator, but hopefully I'll find out soon!
Great work, but I definitely want to see more color variation in your second image. There are a lot of subtleties that could translate well if you made more layers in the shadows around the features (especially the nose and the side of the face, or the tiny corner of her mouth where it gets a little bit softer). You can also play with opacity and also pay attention to how each color shifts and the different shapes that were created-- they are very simplified right now and don't relate to the first image as well as they could.
ReplyDeleteI like the bright color scheme in this one. The vector art reminds me of something you would see on summer packaging for a sports drink or something. The contrast between the neck and water right below the hair is eye catching.
ReplyDeleteI really like both pieces presented here and I think this is a really good first attempt at Illustrator. If anything, I would like to see a little bit more detail scattered throughout the piece to have it match up with the original. Most notably, I miss the light green outline carrying down her neck and the slight purple form around the white mark in the top right corner.
ReplyDeleteIs good! You did a really good job with the translation given the really soft transitions in color and tone in the original. I feel the only real thing that still needs to be worked on is the coloring in the face- there are some flushed reds and pinks in the nose/ear/neckline in the original that helped make the face stick out from the body. It's not really there in the remake and as a result she feels a little more flattened.
ReplyDeleteAll in all though, I think it came out very well. I really enjoy the colors and the composition and they really came through in your Illustrator version.
I think the vector-based version actually accentuates the beautiful color scheme you've used in the original. It probably would be worth messing with the opacity in certain parts such as the shadows in the face and on the shoulder to make the transitions a little more fluid, but it works either way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful variation in color. The steps in hues are very reminiscent of the original. The features on her face it especially well rendered. Try messing around with opacity in your next Illustrator projects. Both of them are gorgeous on their own, but being drained of those very elegant brushes of tone removes some of the life from the finished product.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see this same piece revisited in the future.
You did an excellent job adapting your piece into Illustrator. Love how your confident color choices in the original shone through into your Illustrator copy. The only area that bogged my eye down was the corner with the more abstract shapes where I think you could have played a bit more with opacities. :)
ReplyDeleteWow this is amazing! I feel that the transitions between the two are quite beautiful. You did a great job re-creating the sense of color and tone from the original. I also really enjoy your take on the gradient from the original. Although it became simplified I feel that it works very well!
ReplyDeleteOh, Shoot! Your second image isn't showing up! Can you upload it again for me??
