Here's my Illustrator texture test with a bunny. Something curvy and simple. I believe I used a total of four textures, three of which are clip masks and one of them was just transplanted in.
The texture in the main shape is very subtle, and I'm curious to see how it would have looked if that was a little stronger. That being said, I like the texture used for the inner ear and the slight teardrop shape you gave to the eyes. A very cut-paper look overall.
It looks like you got the hang of the clipping masks and textures! It would be cool to see what would happen if you were to also color in the rabbits inner ear and use a texture applied to a second color there -- instead of the just waves. Just to see what it would do! Because those textures are really far apart, it's hard to tell where the inner ear is! The other thing that I notice is that there is a little bit of an off register with the texture in the nose? Was that intentional? If so, it would be cool to see it applied in other places! If it wasn't and it was just because the copy-paste function knocked the placement off a little, I can help with that! It sometimes moves your clipping mask shape around, which can make it hard to clip exactly to the same spot you want it to go! I do like the really subtle paper-y texture that is in his face. I think that's a really nice application of texture and I could see you doing a lot more of that in your future pieces!
This is cool, but I would really really love to see different parts of the rabbit's fur in this piece! What about the fuzzy cheeks or the little floofy chin? The whiskers are a nice touch, and I like the graphic element that they have-- that would have juxtaposed really nicely with some more life-like fur.
Subtlety of texture is a hard line to walk and I think you definitely erred well on the side of caution. However I think if you popped in a mildly bolder texture in the back, that texture in the foreground would look super sophisticated.
I like the use of the texture inside the ears, and think it would be very interesting to see the rest of the piece pushed in a similar way. The bunny itself is very simple, but I do like the subtle texture on it.
Nice playing with texture. The piece might have a bit too much purple however. It could benefit from a different background color just to break it up a little! I do love the eyes on the bunny and the charm in the asymmetrical ears!
I love how simplistic this ended up being and how you used the textures to add style and variation. I think a more papery texture on the rabbit's face might get rid of some of the issues with lack of volume, but I would still maintain the subtle crinkles the current texture has now!
I really enjoy how simplistic and cute it ended up! I enjoy the textures that you used as it adds a lot to the simple shapes. it might be fun to add some more textures to the background or even the bunny itself to add more depth!

ReplyDeleteI can kind of see the texture on top of the rabbit but I think it would be more interesting if you played with a bolder texture on this piece.
