Whaaale~

whale
For this illustration I mostly used the pen tool to make the shape of the whale and the other shapes. Other than that I just used the clipping mask on the textures that we made the other week and applied them to my illustration.

  1. This is adorable. Also, great fluid shapes and good idea using a white shape to form a texture in the spout of water.

  2. I really appreciate the simplicity of the design and how you incorporated your doodle-y textures to create this delightful image of a whale. I wonder if there is maybe something exciting you could do in the background space, but I totally understand that might screw with the aesthetic you have happening.

  3. I never would have thought to use the texture for the water spray, it really worked well. The texture on the stomach also makes a very nice implied line.

  4. This is so cute! I love how simple your design is, it looks like something that would go in the kids section of ikea. playing around with the background color on this might be interesting, maybe having a light pink background?

  5. this is such a cute design! its extremely simple and the fact that you only used one color really works well. I really love the texture you used for the water spray.

  6. That's a super-successful use of one of the textures for the water. I like the simplicity of the whole thing. If I had to suggest anything, it'd be just a little bit of repositioning on the texture for the water so it doesn't cause that slight banding you see.

  7. I love the simplicity of this and the light blue color. It reminds me of a paper cut out illustration for a children's book or something. I don't know if it would improve it or if it would break the simplicity of the image, but maybe play around with a water texture and some big pointy waves.

  9. I like the texture that you chose for the droplets that are shooting out of the whale - it's nice to see that your textures feel like they go together. It would be really interesting to see how you could have done a couple subtle things to the white of the page -- even if it was a less chunky texture, maybe something pretty subdued? A paper texture, maybe? Or -- maybe on the whale body? It looks like you got the hang of the clipping masks, too - which is great!
