KILL BILL VOL.1

I made two different ones because I like the one with an all yellow field but I think the figure in the second one is more clear as to what is going on. I also didn't really do any sketches for this, I was looking at concept art for kill bill movies and I also skimmed through and rewatched all the important scenes and I didn't see a lot of art for this particular scene. I'm guessing it's because it is the end of the movie and it gives too much away for someone who hasn't seen it before, but the idea just sort of came to me and i thought it was funny so naturally I could not turn it down. To create these posters I used the pen tool and the blob brush a lot. I didn't really run into any problems when making it besides trying to get the line work on the figure in the white to look clear enough as a figure seen from far away for the poster.

  1. I like both of these posters, but I think the first one is a lot stronger. The little text in the second poster has a yellow background to it, which sticks out like a sore thumb with the white to yellow divide. The second poster also reveals a lot of the story, in the first one you're kind of left to wonder who's blood in on the sword.

  2. This is quirky and funny and holds true to everything that Kill Bill was. Awesome. It would be cool to see a different variation on the original posters though, too. In terms of composition and color, it looks a little similar.

  3. I actually really love the second version. I think the divide lends itself to the cinematography of the movie and is visually more interesting as a poster. However, the fact that the credits at the bottom stick out in that yellow box is a little distracting, i'd maybe see if you can make that box of text less wide so that it doesnt override that crossover? or just play around with it. I think this was super successful though, good job!

  4. Kill Bill has such an iconic palette and you utilized it just as well as the official promotional images. The white/yellow split on the bottom one is striking and the way you have split the illustration like that is very memorable, just as a movie poster should be! The top black text works fine with the completely yellow version, but it can be a bit distracting against the pure white. It might help to size it down just a pinch, but overall it's looking very cool!

  5. I like the second one a lot, especially with the divide. I would definitely do something about the yellow box though, cause it does kinda awkwardly cut into that white. I'm also wondering if the Hattori Hanzo text could be made smaller, because right now it's kind of dominating the piece as a whole. But other than those two things you did a top notch job!

  6. I really enjoy the second poster a lot. You were able to efficiently use the color palette of the movie and translate it into your own poster! The white divide is really nice and adds more diversity to the poster, the only thing I would work with is the yellow box of type the sticks out. An easy fix is resizing the type! Other than that nice work!

  7. I prefer the yellow color splash dividing the white space as well! You've got some great details in the imagery in there. The only thing I would point out is the awkward yellow box you have surrounding the slug at the bottom - it seems like it's disrupting the nice directional line you have going from yellow splash.

  8. Oh man I'd love to see you combine the two because that yellow field feels so strong! Maybe if you made the body in the background white instead of the entire field? Anyway, rad work!

  9. There are a lot of really great things happening in both options. One thing I think you did that is really fantastic is using the linework to define her shape. I think that, though it's minimal, it keeps the graphic screen-print-like aesthetic, and the thick shadow on the inside of her leg helps ground her, and make her seem more substantial since you're dealing with thin lines. I think it would be interesting to see if you could either incorporate the grey into another part of hte image somewhere so the katana isn't the only place it shows up, maybe it's a second shadow inside the figure -- maybe it's added into the secondary figure inthe back --- OR, maybe it turns black or red and you go without it?
I think that the only thing that could use work is the type - and I don't think you'd have to do a lot, but the hierarchy for what you read first, second, third is a bit confusing, maybe you could change the font size -- the other thing is, there's a big space between the text on top (is that a fake ad for katanas?) -- but you could make those closer together so they hang more as one statement. The last thing I'd say about it is that the Kill Bill logo at the bottom seems a lot less important in this image than the rest of the text. It'd be nice to see a version without the katana type at the top, and see if that helps you read it more as the poster.
