Hey friends! I thought I was totally solid on this piece, but last night I had a lot of trouble using clipping masks. For that reason, there are still several elements left out of the piece (still sitting off to the side of the art board) and I wasn't able to use textures for any component beside the background. I used the pencil tool and imported the texture in as a bitmap. I'm hoping after class today, I'll be able to re-upload it and it will be a million times better than it is right now.
Sometimes the pencil tool gets a bit wonky and makes extra lines or shapes that interfere with making a clipping mask, I'm sure it's a relatively easy fix. That being said, this guy is awesome and I love it's little smile.
ReplyDeleteI had some similar problems with the clipping mask tool and had to basically start from scratch to fix it, its totally a pain. Regardless of the lack of textures here, i still think its a great piece! the scorpion is really well rendered for only using simple shapes. I do, however, think that his little tail spike thing should have been a darker shade of orange, or even just black. I had to kind of squint to see it. Other than that, great job!
ReplyDeleteAside from the missing textures thing, I really like the design of this and wanna see it when you fix the clipping masks. Oh, and maybe swap the stinger to a slightly darker color?
ReplyDeleteI've had a bit of trouble with the clipping mast as well so I understand how frustrating it can be, but either way I think that this turned out great! I really enjoy the overall shape and form of the scorpion and over the textured background makes it look really cool! I think that that the little spike on the tail kind of blends into the background and might need a little something to make it pop out! Other than that good job~!
ReplyDeleteThe simplicity in the scorpion and the way you segmented its body looks great. The stinger at the end of its tail does get lost in the background. It would look even better to see that stand out a bit more, as a different hue.
ReplyDeletei think this little guy looks awesome but yea, needs textures and i would say maybe use a different color for the stinger because it gets a little lost in the background. otherwise its a good start. it should be interesting to see how you finish it.
ReplyDeleteEven with the trouble you had, I think this guy is a solid little scorpion. I don't know how you did it, but this piece looks like screen print to me. Very nice! I can't wait to see it with all the textures added in.
ReplyDeleteDude, I'm totally right there with you. Aside from the texture issue, I'm enjoying how the shapes came out! I would maybe select a different color for the point of the tail so it jumps out a bit more.
ReplyDeleteHey! I saw you working on this one at the end of class, so I might wait to give you a crit until you post it again - because you did end up putting the texture on the outside of the smiley scorpion. I'll wait and see what you post again!
