Superman Poster Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 11.24.27 PM Screen Shot 2014-09-25 at 1.08.32 PM For my project I did a poster for the 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve. For the project I used primarily the pencil tool and the blob brush tool. The stars were created by making patterns of dots with the blob brush tool and then using the copying function using the option button. During the creation of my type, I took a screenshot of the original and kept it next to my art board so I could quickly retype the content, a capability that I'd never really had in Photoshop.

  1. This looks pretty cool. I think that I would have preferred it with the white clouds, just because it would have added more contrast. I also would have liked to have seen some texture in there possibly! You could really do something neat with that.

  2. I realy love the semplicity but at the samer the quality of this poster.
I think that you can have add more stars near the movie informations.

  3. Simple and elegant- the only real issues that jump out at me is how there seems to be some loss of color in the file and how the poster text at the bottom doesn't mesh with the speckled stars in the background (once you realize it's sitting on top of the stars it's somewhat distracting)

That said, it came out great. You took what might be one of the goofiest things to happen in a super hero movie (at least I think so) and use it's imagery to create an eye-catching composition. Good job!

  4. this is a pretty sweet design. very simple yet effective. the only problems i have with it are that some of the clouds have little holes that it looks like you forgot to fill in and the placement of a few of the clouds could be adjusted a bit to look a little nicer like the one at the top that just barely peeks over the red line at the top could be moved down a tad so it doesn't just have an awkward little piece that reads a little funny from far away

  5. I really love the concept and composition you came up with, everything is super interesting despite the simplicity. I think that maybe the title font might mesh a little too much with the credits at the bottom, but that could be solved easily with just some size differences or more of a gap. Other than that its really great!

  6. This came out really nice! I like your use of simplicity along with your clean lines and shapes. I think that maybe it might be fun to play around with the texture of the earth and whatnot. Otherwise nice work on the type placement and overall it looks great!

  7. im loving all the spirals, they really balance each other out. especially the clouds there really cool. I like how they get transparent around the edges. i think you definitely add more stars to the bottom. with out it it makes credits at the bottom look out of place.

  8. Excellent use of imagery - It's simple and so effective for the idea you went for in your poster. I do agree there has been some loss of color though - I miss the vibrancy it had in your process shots. Maybe try experimenting a little more with the texture you intended to use!

  9. I think this is a really nice, graphic interpretation of this poster. One thing I like a lot about this is that you really let the viewer have some room to focus on Superman by giving him a lot of room to exist out in space. I think the cropping and use of how you've applied the clouds, and earth work well, too. This also has a really nice vintage vibe to it - almost like a great 70s poster... maybe it's the texture that I think really brings it all together and lets the simplicity of the shapes really stand out. I think that you could add a bit more emphasis on the title by adding color, possibly -- even if you leave it pretty simple, and maybe even consider adding some more stars at a lower opacity, or smaller, maybe. I think that right now it feels a bit empty there, but I think it'd be an easy fix. There are some clear areas on the outer edge of the clouds that are a bit of a different color? See what I mean? I'm not sure why they are a bit more grey than the others, maybe you could change the color to match? I think that you could also simulate a paper texture on the black by doing a bit lighter bitmap over that section so it has that same papery feeling that is so nice with the rest of the piece.

  10. I really like the simplicity and comic feel of this. The clouds around the Earth are really interesting, although it seems like you ran into a little issue where the clouds meet the edge of the Earth. I can't say I like the static texture for the earth, but I don't know what I would suggest in its place.
