Spooky Skeleton

Spooky Skeleton

I made this guy using mainly the pen tool, clipping mask tool, smooth tool, and some of the shape tools. I used 5 textures, and had a bit of a rough go of it, but I think it turned out alright in the end. Why doesn't he have arms, you may ask? Your guess is as good as mine.

  1. All the textures that you used look really well thought out and your color pallet is really mellow in a creepy and dark way so kudos on that as well. I would have liked to see more ribs in the rib cage, the negative space would have made this piece more dramatic.

  2. I really love what you did with this, the textures are all subtle and work really well with the shapes. The texture you used for the moon is especially accurate. However, I think if you hadnt made those bones overlap, or atleast made it more clear, this would have been more successful. Just because i think it gets visually confusing about which shape is on top of which.

  3. I'm really a fan of what you did with the brain - you either found the perfect texture or know a lot more about Illustrator trickery than I do. Overall, I think this is a nice exercise piece. The cloud texture might be a bit off, but regardless, this looks pretty good.

  4. The brain is definitely what makes the piece. I love it! The use of texture works very well here. Is that noodley brain image from a texture as well? It's perfect for what you were making.

  5. That brain texture you used is RADDDDDD!!!! I do wish we could have seen you play with the volume and space of the ribcage through illustrator, but you expertly deployed all your textures.

  6. I really like the textures you used for this. The background has a very misty spooky feel to it, and that brain texture is just great. I think it could be improved by adding some ribs to it and maybe a suggestion of the top row of teeth.

  7. I really enjoy the simplicity of this piece and the textures that you used only emphasize the shapes and colors even more. I think that you did a very good job making a clean illustration as well as having a great color palette. It might be fun to play around with the moon a little more, but either way it looks really nice!

  10. I really like how you're using the textures. You did a great job picking some that go well with the mood - in fact, I also like how subtle they are against the colors. It looks like you're feeling a lot more confident with this!! I am excited to see what you do for the poster! It would be cool to see how you finish off his anatomy -- but for what you have - I think that all of the textures look really unified and that you have a great handle on the clipping masks! Great job!
