So a lot of wonky things happened while making this like random layer duplicates appearing and things not staying put so it ended up being way more complicated than I originally thought. I was gonna add lighting and some more detail to the background, as well as maybe some movement in the hands and mouth, and I was gonna clean some stuff up more, but I kinda just ran out of time. Also, for some reason the gif goes faster when uploaded than I had it in photoshop. This was a really cool project and really interesting to experiment with though, and I'll probably try doing stuff like this in the future.

This looks really neat! I think its a bit fast, but like you said photoshop does that sometimes, you could probably just go in and play with the frame speeds. It looks like you used the warp tool for this, which kinda gives a bit of a distortion to the torso/arms I think, but overall the movements of his panting seem pretty natural.
ReplyDeleteI think out of all the gifs in the class yours has the coolest movement effect- did you puff his chest out using the sphere tool? In any case, you got a good animation almost the whole body and I think the sped up breathing goes well, like he's just now getting his first couple breaths after a scrape. I'd just throw in his one good eye blinking maybe once or twice to make the entire body animated (as of right now his head seems to be inanimate in comparison to the rest)
ReplyDeleteMy one criticism is that the movement of the chest should move first instead of the arms. The movement of "heaving breaths" comes from the chest, and would therefore move the arms in response. I like your lines and color choice. It would be nice to see other movements too! or something in the background. Maybe his breath coming out of his mouth?
ReplyDeleteI can tell you put a ton of work into this, almost the whole figure is animated and I'm really impressed. If you were to ever go back and work on this you could add some more shadows on the shirt and on this guys skin.
ReplyDeletesolid work.
The animation for this is pretty smooth, although a few more frames would really make it smooth, especially the last frame where his chest puffs out a bit more than the others. Like Sara said above, the speed is a bit fast, but maybe he's asthmatic? Overall, it looks really good and makes me wonder what was going on before the gif.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty stellar! I think some more lag time in between breaths would slow the pacing down a bit more as well if you think it's too fast. Some more frames in between should help too.
ReplyDeletegreat character animation im glad that his whole body is moving .his breathing looks really natural but it's a little jumpy. i wish you had drawn a transition for the line art were his chest is warped.
ReplyDeletethis is bad ass. it reminds me of fight club or something like that. i think you did a lot with this breathing movement to make it look super interesting. i think it maybe could have been cool to see some blood drip out of his nose off screen onto the floor.
ReplyDeleteThere actually is a tiny blood drip that happens, but it ends up just blending in. I was going to stagger that and have him blink but I just ran out of time.
ReplyDeleteAs for the speed stuff, again, it's totally fine in photoshop, it's just when it gets put on the web it speeds up for some reason. I could try making it even slower in photoshop and maybe it'd slow down the exported one as well though
I really like this concept a lot. I think you did a great job setting up the character and it'd be great to see what you'd do if you actually went back to finesse it. I think that the movement of the shoulders and the way that the chest is moving is nice. there is a slight jump when he breathes where it shudders a bit. It's going fast, so it's hard to pinpoint, but it's just a little jitter? Maybe if you end up looking back at your original file you'll see if there's an extra frame. But I think you should feel really good about this. The whole body movement is really a nice touch.
