A creepy gif

And this is my gif- nothing too particularly sophisticated to it. I went for a really simplistic style that could set up a cool, moody image whist being really easy to animate. So basically I stumbled onto the creative idea that made Limbo happen, I just happened to do it a couple years too late.

Made it mostly with a web of layers, opacity and masks.

  1. This is a really interesting piece Carl! It's got a very definitive mood. I think two tweaks that could be made would be some kind of animation happening on the eyes or maybe some shaking in the foreground figure to highlight it's fear. The other thing is the foreground figure seems a bit too close to a midtone in that black space. I'd definitely play with texturing around the edges to unify it with the background, since right now it feels like it's sitting on the top.

  2. Okay, third time commenting. Damn blogger.

I like the simple style choice that helps sell the mood. Maybe throw in a 1-2 second pause somewhere that help prevent the monster looking a bit twitchy and more like he's searching.

  3. The animation is smooth and sketchy like the rest of the image, which gives it a creepier look in my opinion. I think a nice detail animation of the guy on the ground blinking would be something cool to add.

  4. I thought this was going to be real creepy when I saw your still but this headbanging dude turned out way more hilarious. The only thing I'd point out is the clipping in the shoulder that happens when the guy turns from right to left. Just painting over that area for each frame so the arm connects back to the shoulder should cover it up.

  5. This has a very creepy atmosphere to it, which is great. The animation feels a little choppy to me, but it seems like you got exactly what you were going for, since it matches the style of the gif so well.

  6. this is super weird and creepy. i think i would like to see the other figure moving or even just breathing or something would have been super cool. its awesoe though. i love the space that the black figure is comming out of

  7. There are some really sweet textures in this piece and the dramatic lighting is really well done here as well. I'd like to see some more light spots or maybe some creepy bugs crawling up the walls?

  8. I really love the way he moves, especially the stretch of that mouth. I feel like he could probably linger a little when he looks over to the left, just cause as it is he kinda just coughs in the direction and moves on. I would agree that having the other figure breathing or something would be cool, or even even like looking away when the monster looks towards him

  9. I actually really like the shudders that happen in this one because it has a way more creepy effect. It's difficult to animate the side-to-side motion, but I think you do a pretty nice job of moving his whole head so it comes toward us and then to the side, and back. I think it'd be nice to see a bit of his shoulder move a bit more to accompany it? Maybe that'd be easy enough since it'd just be moving the black area around? It'd be really cool to see a secondary place move - maybe it's just the shuddering of the body on the floor!
