Here's my photo bashing thing from last week, i apparently didn't take many progress shots
I used pieces from 3 different photos I think. Sorry this kind of sucks, I wasnt able to work on it really outside of class.
Your piece is really nice! I really enjoy your lush earthy color palette and the way you were able to the mesh your painting and the photos together. I also really like the really light purple that you chose for your lights and the horizon.
I love the painterly quality you managed to achieve on everything - it blends the original parts of the photo with the rest of the environment. There are some nitpicky places where there seems to be an odd blob of color, like the upper left arc in the trees where the light is shining through and slightly southeast of that where a tree image is clipped, but otherwise you did a great job!
The texture of your brushstrokes almost makes the piece look like a meticulously crafted traditional painting. Upon first glance, it's impossible to tell which parts of the painting are photos and which are purely brushstrokes, which is highly successful in this project of merging the two together. I love the use of the subtle hints of pinks and purples hidden among the sky and the floor of the forests.
All of the painting you did on top of the photo really makes a difference! I think that it especially is nice on the top one where you have the foreground treated with a really nice painterly pathway. There is one spot in the direct middle where it looks like two photos were placed together but you might have to soften the edge between those photos a bit so that they look a bit more seamless- maybe you could use the layer masks just a bit to blend the edge! I love the addition of the tree in the foreground! I think that you could put one more layer of shadow on it by eyedroppering one of the cool shadowy colors and doing a semi transparent layer of painting on top of it so that the colors blend a little - maybe the "overlay" option would be good?
You have a really nice focal point in this, and the path leads your eye straight to it. The subtle textures you added make it read more as a painting than photos, which is definitely a success.
I really like how the final image turned out. The subtle purple in the greyish-white highlights goes together with the bluish-green trees throughout the image. Adding that tree on the left was a good decision. It balances out the piece.
