illustrator layering project

i had some difficulties just navigating illustrator because it's a new program that I'm not quite sure i like yet. but i think the layering technique is something that i could really get used to. changing opacities and putting two different colors together that can vibrate (i.e. a reddish gray next to a greenish gray) is something that i am definitely interested in. i think that i could see myself spending a lot of time layering until it's perfect, but i think i also like to see the process of layering the colors and viewing the image from far away. this is why i chose not to go too far in-depth with smoothing out the variation in color. this lends itself to my painting style which allows the brushstrokes to come through, and bring out color relationships.
